Hello and welcome to my website! I’m Erin Burgess, an entertainer here in Toronto.
This year has yielded a lot of new experiences and opportunities for me. I recently directed and choreographed a production of Willy Wonka Jr. in Ottawa, with a group of amazing students. I was also commissioned by my high school to return as an alumni and teach workshops to the students, as well as set a piece of choreography on the senior dance ensemble. I have been loving this new role as a teacher as well as continuing my own performance career. I will also be joining a great group of teachers this fall as I begin my first year as a permanent teacher at Beaches Dance and Music Studio in Toronto.
In 2014 I had the amazing opportunity to teach a musical theatre program in Amman, Jordan. I taught a multitude of class styles and learned what it truly means to be a teacher. During school hours, I taught a Montessori theatre program for students in grades; 1, 2, 3 and Kindergarten focusing on musical theatre. They learned the basics of acting, singing, and dancing in many different styles. During the evening, I was responsible for after school classes as part of Stardust Academy; teaching Ballet, Contemporary dance, acting classes, and a triple threat musical theatre course. I was working with students aged 3 to 18 in small and large groups. In total we had over 700 students! We were blessed to be able to create and perform a musical with the after school students at the end of the year and they did a tremendous job! It was a life changing experience that awakened my passion for teaching.
I am a graduate of the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts; a two year intensive program. It focuses specifically on creating triple threat performers; artists who are equally gifted in singing, acting, and dancing.
I have been a competitive gymnast, competitive dancer and now a triple threat. I want to experience many different types of theatre and have the opportunity to create my own productions. Performing or choreographing for Broadway would be my ultimate dream.
One of my new goals is to take ballroom dance classes. I would like to round out my dance education by taking courses in both standard and latin ballroom, and maybe even compete if I can find the right dance partner!
